I wasn’t sure what to expect with Cruise, other than a film set in the 1980’s.

Cruise doesn’t do anything necessarily original or unique, but what it does is incredibly well executed and fun to watch.

Jessica (Emily Ratajkowski) and Gio (Spencer Boldman) have a contagious chemistry, infecting the viewer with a sense of nostalgia and lovestruck happiness.

Cruise also manages to capture the late 80’s culture rather perfectly. The outfits, the music, the hangouts, the cliques, the drugs – this film touches on them all and does so with wistful reminiscence.

While this film isn’t going to win any awards, it is an excellent exercise in culture examination and a beautifully made snapshot of a better time period.

Also, the soundtrack is rad.
