If someone walked into your life and killed the person you love most in the world, what would you do?
That is the overarching theme of Death Wish. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) tried to do everything right. He trusted the police, had faith in the law and due process.
But, as in many real life cases, it’s just not enough.
This film reminded me, in a lot of ways, of the AMC series Breaking Bad. Paul Kersey was a good man faced with unspeakable circumstances. His descent into obsession was fascinating to watch, and I wish that the film had focused on it further.
The acting in Death Wish is hampered by the script in many places. Regardless, I felt that Bruce Willis, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Dean Norris did an excellent job with the material that they were given.
The plot of the film is nothing new or innovative, but it serves as a sufficient backdrop for bad guys getting what they deserve.
And let’s be honest… it’s fun to watch good guys take out the trash.
